1 Timothy 2:5 ‘For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time’
Jesus is our Mediator. He is the one who mediates between us and God. A mediator is someone who acts as an intermediary to work with opposing sides in order to bring about a settlement. The dispute between God and humankind was too great. ‘There is no one righteous, not even one’ (Romans 3:10). Nothing we could have done would have been sufficient to mediate between ourselves and God. Jesus alone was needed because we were doomed if we had to represent ourselves before God. Sin had created a gap that was too wide to bridge, but the cross paid the penalty. Hebrews 9:15: ‘For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance – now that He has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.’ Through our Great Mediator, we are able to stand before God clothed in the righteousness of Jesus. His mediation is the only means of salvation.
